Graph the Grid

Graph the Grid is a collaboration between Mathigon and MoMath, the National Museum of Mathematics in New York City.

Join us for a socially-distanced celebration of mathematics as we trace a giant, virtual parabola on Manhattan’s grid of roads. Simply go to a position anywhere on the red parabola and click the “Pin” button to add your location. You can also share your location on social media and upload a selfie. If you use the #GraphTheGrid hashtag on Twitter, your photo will be added to our map.

Remember to watch out for traffic, only cross roads at traffic lights, and don't look at your phone while walking. Please note that, depending on your device or browser, it might take a few moments for your new location to appear on the map.

Your own location(s) are shown as large green pins, while the locations from everyone else appear as smaller dots. Please note that it may take a few minutes before pins will be synced with our server.

To check where on the parabola you are, we have to access your device location, which you need to enable when asked for permission. You can follow the instructions for iOS or for Android.
